What is laser rust removal?
Laser rust removal is a high-precision surface cleaning technique that uses concentrated laser energy to strip away oxidised metal (rust) without harming the base material beneath.
This non-contact process targets the rust layer at a microscopic level, vapourising and lifting it cleanly from the surface and revealing a ready-to-treat substrate.Unlike mechanical or abrasive techniques that can gouge or mar metal, laser rust removal preserves metal integrity making it ideal for precision parts and sensitive surfaces.

Key benefits of laser rust removal
Protects Your Components and Critical Surfaces
Rust is removed without grinding into the metal beneath helping preserve tolerances, edges and surface features reducing the risk of damage, rework, or premature replacement.

Cleaner Projects with Less Disruption
With no blasting media or harsh chemicals involved there’s far less mess, containment and post-process clean-up. This makes rust removal easier to integrate into ongoing maintenance or refurbishment work.

Quicker Return to Service
Laser rust removal can be significantly faster than manual or mechanical methods helping minimise downtime and get equipment, structures, or components back into operation sooner.

Supports Safer and More Sustainable Operations
Because the process produces minimal secondary waste, it helps organisations meet health, safety, and environmental expectations without introducing additional handling or disposal challenges.

Standalone laser cleaning
We offer laser cleaning as a standalone service for industrial, commercial and private customers alike, who need precise, non-abrasive removal of rust, coatings, grease and surface contamination.

Where required this process integrates into our wider engineering activities such as refurbishment, bonding preparation and component repair.

From one-off components to ongoing maintenance support, the service is flexible to your needs.

How laser rust removal works
At its core, laser rust removal relies on a process called laser ablation, where focused pulses of laser light rapidly heat the rust to the point where it dislodges or evaporates away from the metal. The laser beam can be tuned so that it only interacts with the oxidised layer, leaving the underlying steel or iron intact.

The result? Clean metal ready for inspection, coating, welding or restoration all with minimal surface damage and no harsh chemicals.
